The Machine Shop

Arts, Music and Events Venue

With fantastically rich sound and sight-lines featuring sandstone walls, timbered ceilings and turn-of-the-century ironworks, the Machine Shop, originally built by Industrialist Francis H. Clergue to develop and maintain machinery for the fledgling Lake Superior Pulp and Paper Company opened its doors in 2015 as one of Canada’s most unique performance venues hosting the best in the arts, music and events.

The  Restoration

The venue now boasts over 10,000 square feet of assembly space, and is suited for a variety of functions inclusive of a commercial kitchen, instruction area, rehearsal and meeting spaces. The building has been developed with over 19,000 square feet of creative office and studio space making it one of the most vibrant places in Northern Ontario to locate.

This is the second historically significant building that has been restored on the site, with the first being the new home of the Algoma Conservatory of Music, located in Francis H. Clergue’s historical 1895 North American Headquarters.
