The Restoration
Between 2012 and 2013, the City of Sault Ste. Marie generously issued temporary permits to host a series of concerts and events. This enabled the Machine Shop to be tested as a venue from both a functional and economic standpoint and secured development opportunities required to fully restore and renovate the 1899 building as a leading Canadian performance venue.
The venue boasts over 10,000 square feet of assembly space, and is suited for a variety of functions inclusive of a commercial kitchen, instruction area, rehearsal and meeting spaces. The building will also be developed with over 19,000 square feet of creative office and studio space making it one of the most vibrant places in Northern Ontario to locate.
This is the second historically significant building set for restoration on the site, with the first being the new home of the Algoma Conservatory of Music, located in Francis H. Clergue’s historical 1895 North American Headquarters.
